Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (HP) are a key component of health care. Changes within the health care environment require the allied dental professional to have a general knowledge of wellness, health determinants, and characteristics of various patient communities.
Promote the values of oral and general health and wellness to the public and organizations within and outside the profession.

In December 2020, I was given the task of providing a presentation to the public. The purpose was to raise awareness of STIs (sexually transmitted infections) in the oral cavity. Furthermore, providing education of how to protect one self and others from transferring said STIs. Several other health professionals from different practices came to listen and learn. Providing these types of presentations to the public has the potential to decrease the rate of transmission, thus allowing for a healthier community.
